Garden Update

Spring has officially been here for at a few weeks now but traces of snow are still around. I just checked the back yard for signs that my shrubs and japanese mapls are sprouting but nuthin'. Out front where it gets warmer, the tulips are up about 3 inches and the sedums are sprouting up too. The Japanese iris are poking up and they will be the first to show us a flower. I finally took away the Christmas lights and changed my planter to a spring look. A Heather plant is in there now along with the dogwood twigs. If I listen to Martina from Sheridan Nursery, I do need some height and a focal point. I would like some icicle pansies for there too. I am trying my hand at growing some delfiniums from seed. We shall see how I do. If it works I will have 36 delfininiums which are purple, pink and white. Also new for this year are some helebores for the backyard and my new Anniversary rose. I will plant my rose beside the bird bath. Hurry up warm weather !

Dusting off the Blog

It's been a while since our last post, far too long to pick up where we left off ! Once again we're awaiting spring and another fantastic summer. Our cottage adventure takes us to Belmont Lake in the Kawartha Lakes to a lakefront cottage complete with dock, two canoes and paddleboats. This weekend we are awaiting the births of Maeve's puppies. Maeve is Laura's foster dog who arrived two weeks ago. The initial thought was that she had recently given birth however on vet's examination he found she's due to give birth any day now to five or six puppies who will be at least 50% Great Dane! Exciting ! As well this weekend we will receive a visit from the Easter bunny. I'm sure all the kids are looking forward to an Egg hunt and a fun time getting together with their family.

Episode: Jack

We are very excited to find out that we were approved to adopt a rescue Yorkie. We lost our poor Bogey to heart failure in early March. We all missed him so much. We saw Jack on the petfinder website and now he's ours. Well....once we go get him from his foster home in Oshawa. Bogey was such a great pet, we loved him. I think he would be happy another homeless doggie will be with us now. Love you, buddy.

May Flowers

Our weather continues to be nice, we are seeing spring a little earlier than usual this year. Don't be fooled people ! Do not plant until after the long weekend. Unless of course you are the gambling kind or one who likes to wrap plants up in blankets. I'm not that kind. We have been working hard in the yard and have almost completed our shed refurbishment. Last year Rob put new shingles on and this year we have put vinyl siding on. We just have to paint the door and trim and she's good to go. It's quite a nice size so we decided to fix rather than replace. How Green are we ! The work Laura & I did last May has done us proud and the perennial bed and shade gardens are coming up nicely. Once I find my camera, I'll post some pics. Happy spring all !

Episode: April Showers and other news

Actually we haven't had that many showers yet in April...we could use some. The spurts of warm weather have got us out gardening, BBQing and biking. We had a lovely Easter which included some geocaching courtesy of the Silvas, food, visitors; Gram, Greg, Mary and Ali and the Easter Bunny. We celebrated Andy's birthday and he received some handy GC's so he can become Handy Andy in the backyard. I've been busy with the Horticultural Society events and we are in the process of putting siding on our shed which will give it a new lease on life. Kim spent a week at Queen's university on a course and upon her return Gabby organized a welcome home party. We enjoyed a cake that Gabby baked and we went out to dinner - yes all eight adults (?) and five children. We were extremely well behaved and not rowdy at all ! This weekend we are expecting Darlene, Ali and Mary as Ali takes part in a Volleyball tournament here in town. It will be Mary's birthday on the weekend as well so I see more cake in our future !

Episode: Happy Birthday Everett

Where has the time gone ? Our little Easy E is one year old all ready ! We had a wonderful time at his Birthday Party yesterday with a fantastic Fire Breathing Dragan cake. Yummm. Everett loved his gifts and his cousins loved their loot bags. Rui LOVED the sticky hand on a string. It was so much fun. They even had a blast playing with the box the wagon came in. Thanks for a great party, Marts !

Episode: Grandchild # 5 - Welcome Aubree

March 19th at 11:12 p.m. our family grew by one as Aubree Chase Lily Bronson came into the world. Her family was anxiously awaiting her arrival and were thrilled to welcome another little girl to love. Gabby, Rui, Tierney and Everett can't wait to play with her ! The new parents are adjusting to the little one very well. Thanks everyone for your support and well wishes !

Episode: Hockey Weekend

January 15-17 we were excited to have Doug, Ann & Greg in town for the Old Timers Hockey Tourney. Some of the PMSers watched their team in action on Saturday and then went to Kim & Dave's for Dinner and Dave's B-day celebration. Gabby and Rui got their first exposure as Rink Rats; running around the arena, hitting the vending machines and yelling "Go Watson Brothers !" If only John could have played we would have had the big trophy for sure !

Episode: Christmas 2009

This year's holiday season will have to go on record...it has to have been the best ever. We were blessed to have Gram with us again this year and she really enjoyed being with us ! Christmas eve as the family gathered we shared excitement and a few toasts of Christmas cheer as we prepared for Santa's visit. The kids woke up at a respectably hour and opened up their stockings. As they saw the tree piled high with gifts we heard their squeals of glee ! So exciting. There were too many "Wow" factors to mention...let's just say we all did well. The kids got all they asked for and then some and Everett couldn't figure out what was going on ! We had the Bronson's join us for Dinner and Greg, Ali and Mary came for Boxing Day leftovers. Gram spent a few days with Gil and returned in time to ring in the New Year enjoying some time at Kindra & Jay's NYE party. On New Years day we had a try out of our Skating skills at the new rink at Waterloo Town Square. I'm proud (and amazed) to report that we're all in one piece. Tierney proved to be a natural, skating on her own after only about 30 minutes on the ice. Saturday January 2nd we had our annual shopping spree to celebrate Gabby's 9th birthday. Afterwards the Silva's served a fabulous pizza dinner and birthday cake and Gabby strutted her new finery in a Fashion Show. Now it's time to put the decorations away for another year...and in the words of Tiny Tim "God Bless us, every one !"

Episode: Chocolate Face

Everett is the perfect child. Beautiful, friendly, content and curious. As long as he's fed and changed he's good to go. This Sunday Kim thought he should explore a new part of
kid-dom....Chocolate Cake ! Laura was game, so off came his top and hilarity ensued ! He didn't see what the big deal was but it was fun for the rest of us ! Smoosh yourself some cake today, it'll do you good !

Episode: Sunday with a chance of Sunshine

I just heard on Spongebob that souls look like pickles, which caused me to think...

we have spent too much time inside this weekend. Seriously.

We have to go to the grocery store and I am feeling like it is way to daunting to think about getting up off the couch. Gabby has been working on a huge science project all day today. My sisters and mom have taken off to shop for Christmas presents in Mississauga today and Dave is sleepy because he woke up with a sore shoulder (from football) at 4:30am and is now napping.

I ate too much take-out and feel gross.
It's time to go out to the store and get some healthy food and to drag the family out with me to blow the stink off - as they say.
